Fortune and CNN Web have teamed up to ask economic gurus to predict the future of the U.S. economy. “Dow 4,000. Food shortages. A bubble in Treasury notes.” Fortune spoke to eight of the market’s sharpest thinkers and what they had to say about the future is frightening.
Interesting read, although a little laborious for this ole country boy at times. The frightening part, to me at least, is the fact that farmers can’t borrow any money to plant and maintain their crops. Farms have become so large and so “corporate-tized” that they are totally dependant upon big capital for every aspect of their process, from planting to harvest. Now there is a monkey in that wrench. (huh?) I would hope that the new government would address this issue before any other. Seems fairly important to me. History has shown us many times that the inability to feed its people will collapse a government every time.
