Our economic plight could be ironically foretold by the lowly 1-cent piece. It has become more expensive to produce than its worth. The U.S. mint now spends about 1.2 cents to make one. This reminds me of the present-day hoax around ethanol as a fuel, in that it takes 1.2 units of energy to produce 1 unit back, insane. Ooops, off-topic there, sorry.
