No matter which side of this fight you’re on, the answer is empirically simple, us. Us, the people that actually go to the polls and vote. But once again, some paper-shuffling jackass comes along and tells us that the vote doesn’t count. Another deal in some D.C. hotel suite and your vote doesn’t count.
Who are these people that put themselves between "us" and our vote? Who is it that tells the little old lady that sacrificed to make it to the polls that her vote doesn’t count? Who tells the grunt-soldier in Iraq, that went through all the red tape to send in a vote, that it’s only gonna count half? Who is it that tells us who pumped $4 a gallon gas into our autos to go to the polls that our vote will only count half? And if your vote only counts half, could you get a refund of half that? Or maybe you could get a vote and a half in the next election instead?
The "half-deal" is much better, I supposed, than the original idea. The original deal, of course, was to deny the people of these states no vote, zero, zilch. All the legal mumbo-jumbo aside, it is an asinine thing to tell 8+ million people in this country in the first place. And what is truly amazing about it all, is the lack of public outcry. All these people told, plain and simple, you just can’t vote; and ultimately told they didn’t have any recourse. Once again the ah, err, "democratic process" had been subverted and no one came to its aid.
Ah, but now this magic last-minute-DC-hotel-room deal to "give" these poor disenfranchised voters a half a vote. Well that’s a pretty good deal I guess, you’ve gone from zero to one-half. Now don’t you fell better?
You may be mad as hell that this "situation"went against your choice, or you may smile and take solstice that it benefited your choice; but I tell you both, we have all lost.
